Dr. David L Terrell (1935-2019) Bio

It was with deep regret that we greeted the passing of our valued colleague in late October 2019.  Graduate of the University of Rochester, with PhD in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Terrell was a Board-Certified specialist in Clinical + Family Psychology with the American Board of Professional Psychology.  Fellow of Five Divisions of the American Psychological Association including the Division of Clinical Psychology.  Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology.  Dr. Terrell was licensed at the Psychologist Level in Tennessee and Maryland.  He received private practice referrals for over 50 years and served as Clinical Consultant to the licensing Board of Psychology in Tennessee.  During his prior work as Director of Training in the Behavioral Sciences Division of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, he served as head of a specialized Clinical Psychology Training Program funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.  He also enjoyed faculty appointments at Fisk University, Tennessee State University, and the Department of Psychiatry, Meharry Medical College.  He served in appointment as Adjunct Psychology Professor at George Peabody College + Vanderbilt University (1974-2008) in Nashville, TN.  He possessed extensive graduate-level clinical teaching and consulting experience.


Dr. Terrell was responsible for case supervision and post-doctoral training of new psychologists in several community mental health centers.  He served as Senior Consultant + Trainer in Washington, DC's University Research Corporation, and as counseling and research coordinator for youth mental health programs at Howard University in Washington, DC.  He was a Visiting Psychologist and Accreditation Consultant for the American Psychological Association (APA) and an APA panel reviewer of Psychology Instruction in the Arkansas + Florida university systems.  He was a Founding Member (1968) of the Association of Black Psychologists and served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Community Psychology.
